How SOC Codes Work for Visa Sponsorship
When an employer sponsors you for a Skilled Worker visa, they must assign a SOC code that matches the duties of the role. Each SOC code has a published "going rate" — the minimum annual salary the Home Office considers appropriate for that occupation.
Your offered salary must meet the higher of: the general threshold (£38,700 for experienced workers, £30,960 for new entrants) or the SOC code going rate. This prevents undercutting the domestic labour market.
